Brendan Joyce from the Marine Science department of NUI Galway is a regular visitor to Timoleague NS.
On Monday November 9th, Brendan conducted 2 workshops on Light Distribution from Nuts and Bolts with 6th class in the morning and 5th class in the afternoon. These were an extension of the workshops completed by the classes last year.
The pupils lloked at life underneath the sea and how light during the seasons controls plankton and other micro organisms. The pupils explored how weather, pollution and climate change affects the population of these organisms. The classes got the opportunity to build a Secchi Disc which is used to check the clarity of water.
