Juniors busy exploring, measuring and creating
Our Junior and Senior Infants have had a spring full of discovery, moving their learning from the classroom to the outdoors. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
Puddles, Cubes, and Capacity
When the winter rain arrived, we turned it into a maths adventure! The children followed a trail around the school and visited the garden in Timoleague to investigate the many puddles that had appeared.
Using cubes to measure depth and discussing capacity, the children combined serious scientific observation with plenty of excitement. We wrapped up our fieldwork with the most important task of all: jumping in the puddles!
As the sun came out, we turned into gardeners and biologists:
-
Planting: Everyone used their hardworking hands to plant grass seeds in personalised pots. We even designed creative faces on the pots now we’re waiting to see if their grassy "hair" starts to grow!
Life in the Grass
With the arrival of spring, we turned our focus to geography and science. We headed to the school’s green area to investigate the grass and soil habitat. Our young explorers found:
-
Living things: Wriggly worms and tiny roots.
-
Natural objects: Twigs, leaves, rocks, and soil.
Back in the classroom, the children practiced their sorting skills by categorising their findings by colour, leading to some fantastic discussions about the world beneath our feet.
Junk Art
The Infants have been busy planning and creating Junk Art. Before building, the children used their maths eyes to sort recyclable materials into 3D shape categories.
From thoughtful planning to the final construction, these unique masterpieces showcase incredible teamwork and problem-solving. We are so proud of their creative imaginations!
