Curious Minds - Gold Award

16th Jun 2025

We are delighted to announce that Timoleague National School has achieved the Gold Award at the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Curious Minds Awards 2024/25. This recognition celebrates the school’s commitment to promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) education.

Awarded by Science Foundation Ireland, the Curious Minds programme encourages schools to engage learners in hands-on, inquiry-based STEM learning experiences. Achieving the Gold Award means our school has successfully demonstrated excellence in five key areas: Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, and a STEM Showcase.

Our submission documented through a comprehensive Log of Evidence was highly praised by the SFI assessment panel. They highlighted the range and depth of STEM learning across all class levels and commented:

"Your submission clearly shows that there was a huge amount of STEM work done in the school this year. Really interesting workshop making the hügelkultur. Your materials activities were particularly strong—investigations on material conduciveness, floating and sinking, slopes and friction, and the oxidation activity. Everyone looks like they had a brilliant time at the 3rd class show and tell. This award is a real credit to the learners, teachers, and the community for all the work you do."
