Birdwatching
Yesterday our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class pupils enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning experience as we welcomed Calvin Jones, a renowned nature writer and birder from the Heritage in Schools programme. Calvin is passionate about connecting children with the natural world, and he certainly succeeded on our local birdwatching tour.
Equipped with sharp eyes and enthusiasm, the classes explored our local estuary environment. Calvin, known for his engaging talks on Irish wildlife and biodiversity, used interactive activities and equipment to teach us how to spot and identify native birds that thrive in this important habitat.
The children were thrilled to observe many species of waders and waterfowl feeding on the mudflats. Among the exciting sightings were elegant birds like the Heron, and the long-billed Curlew. It was a wonderful hands-on lesson in local biodiversity, showing the pupils just how much wildlife is right on our doorstep when we take the time to look.
