Artist in School Scheme

27th Aug 2020

We had a successful application in 2020 to the Cork County Council  “Artist in School Scheme” was successful. We were allocated €1500. We also started our Muintir na Tire competition journey which is a Cork Schools’ Garden project. This involves the whole school coming together to help promote biodiversity and continuing to bring nature, colour and wildlife to our school garden. 1st and 6th class worked in collaboration with a local artist called Michael Ray, co-ordinated by Valerie Burns, who creates sculptural pieces and architectural panels in glass. They worked together in groups within their classes and the children used their sketchbooks to create and design ideas about the Abbey and the wildlife that lives and comes into the Estuary in Timoleague. They brought these ideas and creations to life in a fused glass form to capture their colour, shape and story behind the idea.
