2nd class explore composting

4th Mar 2026

This week, 2nd Class headed to the school garden to dive into the world of composting. As part of our environmental studies, the students learned how to turn organic waste into rich soil for our plants.

Through hands-on exploration, the class discovered the secret to a healthy heap:

  • Greens: Nitrogen-rich fruit scraps and grass clippings.

  • Browns: Carbon-rich dry leaves and cardboard.

The highlight was a mini-beast hunt, where the children found plenty of earthworms and woodlice hard at work. It was a fantastic way to see the nutrient cycle in action and learn how our small actions help the planet!
