The Woodie’s Budding Gardeners children’s gardening competition is back again for 2023! The project involves a class creating a small class garden and follow three progressive phases of SOW IT, GROW IT & SHOW IT.
1st class eagerly commenced their project on Thursday March 9th. Working within the constraints of 1.5m x 1.5m space, they are developing a themed garden.
The garden theme will be incorporating the Four Elements. The class was divided into four groups Earth, Wind/Air, Fire, Water. Each group worked together and had a brainstorm of what is their element, what does it look like, feel like, colours that come to mind. Then each group will design their space and thinking about plants/flowers/materials that will represent their element.
They will build a 1.5m x 1.5m area from stone that has been donated from a local quarry, fill with soil, little pebbles, bark mulch, or whatever material is most suited to their element.
Any plants/flowers will be sown and grown in the polytunnel until it grows and the weather warms up to be planted outside.
Then 1st Class will take care of their space, water their plants/flowers and watch their element come to life!
