Engineering Week 2023

8th Mar 2023

Engineering Week aims to encourage enthusiasm about the engineering profession among young people.

Junior Infants were very busy making blow pipes and building their very own marble runs!

2nd & 3rd class explored the work of structural engineers as they worked together to create buildings. They found that using smaller sticks, larger foundations and diagonal support led to more successful builds. They also enjoyed a STEPS Engineer's Week webinar on Sports Engineering where they learned that there is so many interesting science and engineering careers within the field of sport!

3rd & 4th class tackled parachutes and the Egg Drop challenge. They also had a talk with engineer Stephen Finn where they built windmills.

5th class investigated building tall structures using everyday materials.

6th class had a task to get a bead from one side of the room to the other with no throwing, rolling or hands involved! 1st class offered advice & enjoyed helping 6th class.
